The Ark is one of those B grade sci fi propositions pitched at teens and early twenty something's.

As might be predicted, it comes with its own woke baggage, this time in the form of female empowerment. The female lead "steps up". There's not even the remotest consideration of sharing the leadership of the group with her male counterparts. In spite of the fact they are all wet behind the ears and need all the mutual support, they can get.

So putting this unrealistic nonsense aside, is this series any good? Well, no, not really. Its pretty bland fare, more a space soap opera than anything else, with a survivalist component.

Think Lost in Space (the 50's edition nor the terrible remake) minus the humour, novelty and excitement and there you have it.

Acting is alright and sets are decent but well, that's really not enough.

In summary, a not terribly engaging, survivalist, space soap opera.

As I write this review, I have just learned that season three has been approved for release. I'm glad to hear this, as I don't think this show is all thad bad. It's not predictable, which is pretty good in this day and age. The production values are pretty good, the story lines are pretty engaging. There is good chemistry between the characters. The show has certainly not run its course yet. The female lead is strong and carries the team well. Plus the story ark [no pun intended] is quite original, with good plot twists. Base on the story ark so far... I'm looking forward to season three.

This was one of the times when I knew after roughly 60 seconds that I would not want to continue watching this series, but I forced myself to sit through the first episode because I did not want to judge prematurely.

The first thing you'll notice is: the CGI is atrocious. There are movies which aired 25 years ago that have better CGI. If that is a no-go for you, you'll be out after 20 seconds. If you can bear with that, get ready for the next disappointments.

The characters as well as their problems are flat, one-dimensional and stereotypical. After the first episode, I can't remember a single name, because the series just didn't make me care for any of them. The writing is uninspired and lazy, the plot could be the result of a moderately well thought-out ChatGPT prompt.

Now granted, this is obviously targeted at kids, but there are good shows for kids, and then there's garbage for kids, and this is the latter.

Just what the hell is this? From the get go I had a feeling, this is a money-laundering scheme or some tax-deductible operation. Nothing makes sense, the cast, the script, the science, CGI ... Of course, this didn't had a big budget (I guess), but in the same universe/dimension/plane of existence as 'Expanse' or 'Altered Carbon', this comes across as an unintended joke. I dare say, The Starlost is less of an chore to watch. Can't recommend it, but encourage you to try pass the first episode.
