Jonathan enlists the aid of a grifter named C.J. Barabbas to help them. Only problem C.J.'s amoral. Now he approaches Stone and tells him of what Jonathan is planning, on the night that Stone's boss is suppose to take possession of Mark, Jonathan puts his plan in action but is caught and arrested. And Stone has the contract and his boss arrives and they go to Mark and when Stone opens the contract he is shocked to discover it isn't the contract. A new play about a man who dies and speaks to God opens. Jonathan is now a priest while Mark is now the dresser for, Fred Fusco, the actor who plays the lead. Fusco's a little morose. But after the plays first performance, he changes; he claims that God was in the audience. People think that he is trying to generate some publicity for the fledgling play, including Jonathan. But nevertheless it seems to work, the play is a smash and Fusco is changing especially after meeting a boy who has cancer. After the boy dies Fusco decides to bequeath all of his property and assets to an endownment in the boy's name. which makes his sister and nephew unhappy, cause they rely on him for their necessities. When he also announces that he will die soon, his sister tries to have him committed. She then discovers that her adopted mother is her birth mother. It seems that years ago, she got pregnant and her aunt, who was her guardian forced her into putting her baby up for adoption. Jonathan and Mark go to work for a football team. Their mission is to help Alex Carpenter, a player, who is worried that he might be cut, so he takes pills. Dr. Hickey, the team doctor, who supplies him with the pills he takes, is also taking pills. His son, Neal who works with his father, who is constantly being pressured by his father to do better, is also taking pills, without his father's knowledge. When his son nearly dies, and learning that it's because of him that he is an addict. He admits that he is an addict too. A man's son has been MIA in Vietnam since 1968. When his remains are found, no one in his town comes to his funeral. He then tries to establish a scholarship in his son's name but the people who don't want to be reminded of the war, don't want to be a part of it. But Jonathan invades their dreams and reminds them of how much his son has done for them, like the man whose place he took in the draft and he didn't have to, the son of the town banker whose life he saved, and so on. After the scholarship for his son is established, Jonathan tells him that it's time for him to thank God, so Jonathan places him in an old bomber plane and it takes off, with Jonathan with him. Along the way Jonathan vanishes and his son appears and they go on together.

And at this thing is Soloman's son David, who calls Baltic a liar. Then Cal one of Baltic's people shoots David. He dies and when word reaches Soloman, he has a heart attack. Baltic and Cal are in Baltic's basement gloating about what they did and planning their next move. Then Baltic's son grabs one of the guns Baltic's has there and shoots them. Jonathan goes to Baltic's wife, who is trying to wipe the blood off the walls. She says that Jan was not always that way and Jonathan asks her when did he change and she says after he lost his job. He said that it was the Jews who were out to get him. Jonathan asks her if she would be willing to donate her husband's heart to Everett Soloman, who needs a transplant, she agrees. Jonathan helps a brainy but severly obese girl named Jenny gain self-esteem and deal with ridicule from her ""friends."" At one point, the snotty girls invite Jenny over to model a swimsuit, predictably leading to humiliation and the girl to gorge herself with doughnuts. Jonathan tells her the girls aren't her friends and helps her see that she has many other gifts people appreciate. Meanwhile, the angel sees that the jock (named Jack) that Jenny is tutoring needs to have his ego shaken, particularly since he considers the girl unsightly due to her weight. Jack had wanted to have a pretty cheerleader help him, but of course Jonathan can see where that is headed.
