She spent part of her childhood in Hong Kong and attended Island School before studying at Queens' College, Cambridge. Patten is best known for her role as Sue McKinley in the Bollywood film Rang De Basanti (2006). Her other notable work includes appearances in The Forsyte Saga, Jonathan Creek, Midsomer Murders, Merlin as Ygraine, and Downton Abbey as Diana Clark.
