I never really liked the accident-prone comedy style of the “Magoo” cartoons, but here his short-sightedness is quite enjoyable to watch as he is invited by a neighbouring couple - who clearly need their own eyes testing, too - to babysit! He accepts their offer and turns up unable to distinguish between their child and their dog! Whilst he is trying to organise a bath, an opportunist burglar sees a chance to raid the house. What chance the dapper and myopic old gent can avoid flooding the house, tripping over the dog and thwarting the enterprising thief? “Magoo” reminded me of Herbert Lom with his fez and smoking jacket here and some of the jokes still hold up quite well as it hits the ground running quite and motors along entertainingly.
